I should be writing...

I should be writing...

Just when you think you've got it all figured out...

by Gail Delaney on 02/10/12

I have wanted to work on the next Phoenix series for quite a few years, and I tried in earnest about three years ago, but even though I saw the first story in my head it just didn't want to come out. I struggled with the first dozen or so chapters, but couldn't get past "getting them out of Alexandria" as I often said. Then, a couple months ago, something broke free and I wrote two-thirds of the book in about six weeks.

I though "Awesome! I found the vein!" and as soon as Janus was done, I dove straight into what I considered book two ... Stasis.

You'll note here I said "what I considered..."

I have been fighting with the first five or six chapters of Stasis, and more than not finding that flow, I'm not feeling this story. I can't write it because I can't seem to care. I've tried to add more, I've tried to take different roads, I've tried many things.

Tonight, I think I've decided... I need to rethink my entire approach to this second book. And in truth... this second book might not be the second book at all.

Maybe David won't fit into the timeline I'm trying to put him in because this isn't his timeline.

Maybe the woman I wanted to force him to be with isn't working because, just as in life, she's not the one. Maybe I don't know who he's supposed to be with because I haven't "met" her yet. Just like Jacqueline Anderson in The Phoenix Rebellion. I didn't know she existed when I broke Book One: Revolution. But she was so very important, especially at the end of the series.

So, I think... gonna try this out... I think Book Three: Triad is actually Book Two: Triad and Book Two: Stasis is actually Book Three: Stasis?

I'm going to toss it against the wall and see what sticks.

Updated to the site

by Gail Delaney on 01/21/12

I've been busy at work the last couple of days getting this site up too speed with what's going on in my writing life. So... here's a quick rundown.

1. I've consolidated all Phoenix information to launch from the "Phoenix -- Too Possible" page. From this page you can access information all all four of the Phoenix Rebellion books currently available, plus get the newest information on the upcoming Phoenix Rising series, coming out beginning in May of 2012.

2. I've revived this blog... we'll see how long that lasts. :-)

3. I've added a Works in Progress page with ideas, false starts and concepts I have brewing for future books -- in all genres I write in: Contemporary Romance, Romantic Suspense and Sci Fi/Futuristic/Speculative Fiction Romance.

4. On the WIPS page is a poll... tell me which future book sounds the most interesting to you.

5. I've added information on all the books in the Borealis anthology series, not just mine. To really appreciate one, you need to read them all.

I think that's about it for now. Tell me what you think of the site overall. Of all the sites I've had, and all the 'refurbs' I've done, this one is by far my favorite. What do you think?

Thanks, everyone...

I'm trying out my new blog set up

by Gail Delaney on 03/19/11

This blog is really about nothing at all. I'm just trying out the blog option on my newly designed website. So, rather than having a separate blog posting site, I'll be able to do everything right here.

Cool, huh?

That is... if it works. :-)

I'll be honest, I'm really bad at blogging.

I always have every intention of doing it on a regular basis, but something always seems to get in the way. Maybe I need to set up a regular schedule. Schedules work for me. If I know on Monday I do "this" and Tuesday I do "that", the both this and that are likely to get done.

So, if you don't see anything from me for awhile... please don't give up on me. I'll keep trying...

Thank you for stopping by.
